Stop the overly vague topic titles.

Category: the Rant Board

I know most people probably won't consider this a huge issue, but its annoying me.
Stop posting topic titles that don't tell us enough information, or really anything at all. Topic titles like "a question," "What do you think," and the like are vague, tell us nothing, and make me wonder why in the world I should click your topics link, or what the topic will be about.
Be specific yet concise. No one wants to waste time because they didn't understand what the hell you were saying, before clicking the link. I'd think this would be something that wouldn't need to be stated, but sadly it has.
thanks for wasting your time reading my rant.

Lol. It's like a surprise, yet it turns out to be like opening a present only to find a roll of toilet paper. How thrilling.
I'd also like to add something about the boards that has been irritating me lately, if I may. Someone has been posting numerous topics per day, some of them being names of people (who may have important significance in history but I don't know or really care about), and some have been along the lines of vague. What is the point of posting so many topics like that in a day? Can't you please try to narrow them all in to one somehow?

Lol Distance, I like your Enalagy there, and I agree with you on your other point.

Lol ryan, I agree with you here. There are so much of them, I wonder what the point of it all is? Just my thoughts.

I tend to not bother clicking on topics with vague subject lines, so I agree with the original poster. If you want your topic to be read and perhaps commented on, then make sure people know what it is about, because those of us who can be impatient at times are not going to read it if we don't have a clue what it is about.

I also agree with Ryan's post. That person tends to do this periodically. And others have done it occasionally too. Apparently they only come on once in awhile and have saved a lot of crap up to post about and do it all at once.

This is a problem across the internet generally. On some websites it isn't just limited to the topic title. I read the main post and am left with more questions than answers. When it is that bad, it is bad enough to be considered an outrageous infuriation.

Post 7 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 28-Mar-2013 19:45:10

I suppose I don't care, because if the title doesn't grab me I don't post or read it anyway, so.

Wayne, that's the point. The topic might grab you if it weren't vague, but if it is vague, or if someone has such atrociously bad spelling that you don't have a clue what the subject might be, then in my opinion that is worse than it just not grabbing my interest.

I'm sure it doesn't phase you at all when there are dozens and dozens of them, after dozen. Surely the fact that you have to surpass them to get to the good ones has no impact on you. Are you sure about that?

Post 10 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Friday, 29-Mar-2013 9:55:11

I think the point Wayne is trying to make, is that, as has been said, it's just part of being on internet forums. cause, if a topic is vague, I, personally, won't even bother reading it. obviously, the person who created it, didn't put much thought into it, so I won't waste my time there.

Post 11 by forereel (Just posting.) on Friday, 29-Mar-2013 12:18:17

No, it doesn't bother me at all. I use the N to skip through topics. N or shift N.
If the topic is vague I hit N and never read it unless i'm bored and looking for something to do, but mostly no. Want to get me reading say something to get me.

that's exactly how I feel. very well said.

Indeed. If you can't capture my interest you aren't worth my time.

Vagueness may not be due to lack of thought. Some people struggle to express/articulate themselves.

Post 15 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Thursday, 11-Apr-2013 0:53:40

Yes, but how hard can it be to come up with a subject line that will let people know what your post is going to be about? And while I'm in the mood to complain about subject lines, people need to be more careful about spelling. Even if you use bad spelling in the message itself, at least make sure the few words in the subject line are spelled correctly. I recently saw a topic title with a misspelled word, and even though I was sure I knew what the person meant, I also knew that not many people would enter on the topic because the subject line made no sense with the misspelled word.

Post 16 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 11-Apr-2013 9:45:22

I'm guilty of that!
I thought I had checked it before posting. After it posted, I saw it was wrong, and I'm like, shit! *sigh* Oh well.
You can't fix it unless you ask a CL to do it. Who wants to admit they can't spell? Lol
JK.

Post 17 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Thursday, 11-Apr-2013 15:07:42

I admit that I can't spell. lol!

Post 18 by Blue Velvet (I've got the platinum golden silver bronze poster award.) on Thursday, 11-Apr-2013 16:25:21

I think some of the errors in subject lines are a matter of careless typos from being in a hurry than actual spelling mistakes. And even if you are a bad speller, I agree with the original poster that subject lines are very important, so use only words that you know how to spell in the subject line. Just my opinion.

Post 19 by forereel (Just posting.) on Thursday, 11-Apr-2013 16:27:09

Now, let me see. How do you spell that word subget? Hmm!
